What a weekend. I feel like the luckiest man alive. On this holiday when we celebrate our country’s independence and reflect on the value of freedom and choice, I got to combine three of my greatest passions: spending time with my kids, photography, and motorsport.
On his 13th birthday in April, my son received tickets to Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen, which is held annually at Watkins Glen International in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York. As happy as he was to receive this awesome gift, it was I who felt like the birthday boy – I knew what was in store in less than three months!
IMSA (the race’s sanctioning body) did a magnificent job in presenting a thoroughly fan-friendly event. Armed with my Canon 70D DSLR and Samsung Galaxy smartphone, we walked most of the track – even Victory Lane – and captured some pretty amazing moments. From the crew members, to the drivers, to the track safety workers – the bravery, determination and dedication to perfection was an inspiration to all.
I can’t say enough about our experience. My son had a blast, and I got to revel in the things that I love most in life.
